How to Get Rid of Belly Bloat During the Holidays
As silly as it may sound, around this time of year, I typically get tired of food. Yes, it’s possible! I mean think about it, you’re near the end of the year and you’ve probably eaten everything you’ve craved at some point within the year. I know I did!
When I travel to visit family, stopping at my favorite restaurant and indulging in my favorite local eats is always on the agenda. And, one of my favorite holidays—Thanksgiving—was less than a month ago. Needless to say, I’m thankful for sweater weather but I don’t want to go into the new year carrying unnecessary “holiday pounds.”
I officially began weaning my son from breastfeeding last week and I’m already experiencing the effects. Yes, he’s more independent but that also means I’m no longer burning calories from breastfeeding. Over the weekend I indulged in my typical favorites, which included Prosecco and pizza, and by Sunday I was feeling heavier than I’ve felt in a long time.
Tips for How to Get Rid of Belly Bloat
Whenever I feel extremely bloated, here’s what I do:
- Start my day with a detox: I take a shot of apple cider vinegar and drink a cup of detox tea. The apple cider vinegar has anti-inflammatory properties; helping with the whole bloating situation. Drinking detox tea also helps rids my body of toxins acquired after an eventful weekend, for example.
- Have a green smoothie for lunch: I’m a sucker for a sweet green smoothie. My favorite smoothie recipe includes spinach, strawberry, grapes, pineapple, mango, banana, unsweetened cashew milk, and chia seeds for protein.
- Add fiber to my diet: Fiber is your best friend if you’re bloated. Because what better way to cleanse yourself than by being “regular.” My favorite fiber-filled foods include Frosted Mini Wheats, Path of Life Quinoa and Kale, and broccoli.
Incorporating these three tips into my day help me get back on track—sometimes it only takes a day, sometimes a little longer. I’ll be following this regimen for at least three days this time around. I’ve also been doing some at-home workouts—I’m trying to start the new year off right!
